Description: "A rich, hazelnut-infused vegetarian grain meat stuffed with smoked apple sage sausage, crystallized ginger and cranberries – wrapped in savory vegan puff pastry."
Allergens: wheat, nuts
Purchased at: Sprouts
This roast is an impressive main dish option for holiday dinner parties. The "meat" is a smoky gluten-based sausage with a robust sage flavor. Apple and cranberry lend a strong hint of sweetness. A thin layer of puff pastry adds crispness and a buttery flavor without making the dish too rich. I found the sausage to be a little dry, but a spoonful of Tofurky gravy remedied that. Between the apple and sage, the flavor is strongly reminiscent of breakfast sausage, which I was always lukewarm about before going vegan, and I felt the same way about this product. However, my non-vegan sister loves breakfast sausage and thoroughly enjoyed this roast – she even took a second helping.
Would I Repurchase?: It was good, but there are other options I prefer and would sooner repurchase, such as the Gardein Holiday Roast. But if you're a fan of sausage, you may like this much more than I did.
